Tree Tips:

Summer Tips
for your trees:
Trees should be watered during dry, hot periods when there is no rainfall for two weeks. The equivalent of one inch of rain per two weeks is sufficient. Water can be measured with a rain gauge or straight sided container placed in watering area. Properly watered trees will be healthier and able to resist pests and diseases better.
Along with watering, it is important to look at the leaves of your trees. A problem may exist if the leaves have holes or are shriveling, dropping, turning yellow, brown or early fall color.
It is important this year, to check for structural problems of your trees. For example, crotches are weak from the draught of the last few years, and are splitting. We can strengthen week areas with cable and bracing techniques.
Consulting an arborist is the best way to begin fixing the problem or at least minimizing the damage. Remember to check the credentials of arborists, and beware of disreputable tree companies. The uninsured tree worker you hire today, could own your home tomorrow. Beware of door-to-door solicitors, demands for pre-payment, jobs sold without written estimates or work orders.
